FAA Fire Training Specialist (Compliance Training)
CHICAGO FIRE DEPARTMENT
Airport Operations
Number of Positions: 3

Starting Salary: $118,692 annually

THIS POSITION IS OPEN ONLY TO CAREER SERVICE UNIFORMED MEMBERS OF THE CHICAGO FIRE DEPARTMENT
Under direction, the class functions as a uniformed technical specialist conducting Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) training to ensure departmental operations at O'Hare (ORD) and Midway (MDW) Airports comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), state and departmental requirements, and performs related duties as required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provides specialized compliance training in an area related to airport fire response (e.g., airport familiarization; communications; driver competency; apparatus; etc.)
• Develops training curriculums, training schedules and determines instructional methods (e.g., demonstrations, sketches, explanations, visual aids, hands-on training)
• Prepares lesson plans and training schedules for classroom structured training to meet state and federal training objectives for individual and group instruction
• Documents student attendance and required FAA module training
• Provides updated rosters to the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshall (OSFM) for airport firefighter certification
• Demonstrates and instructs members in the safe and effective operation of specialized Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) apparatus, tools, equipment and procedures
• Identifies gaps in response protocols and recommends improvements to emergency procedures and training curricula
• Updates members individual training records required by FAA module training to track training compliance and status for review by FAA certification inspectors and representatives from the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA)
• Performs functions required by the CDA's Ground Motor Vehicle Operating Regulations Manual (e.g., ensuring personnel remain 14 CFR Part 139.393/329 compliant for department vehicle drivers; ensuring personnel who apply for advanced airside driving privileges complete and successfully pass the combined basic and Advanced Driver's test annually; conducting immediate remedial Advanced Driver's Test (practical) when required)

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience
Career Service status as a uniformed member of the Chicago Fire Department
Five (5) years as a uniformed member of the Chicago Fire Department
A valid State of Illinois driver's license
A minimum career service rank of either:
Fire Fighter (including EMT or Paramedic)
Fire Engineer (including EMT or Paramedic)
Lieutenant (including EMT or Paramedic)
Captain (including EMT or Paramedic)
Possession of the following:
Office of the State Fire Marshal Instructor II
Office of the State Fire Marshal Fire Service Vehicle Operator (FSVO)
Office of the State Fire Marshal Incident Safety Officer Course (Course Completion)
Office of the State Fire Marshal Airport Firefighter
Chicago Fire Department Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Certified
Advanced (Red Stripe) Driving privileges at O'Hare and Midway Airports
