About Us

HealthEast Medical Transportation offers emergency medical services for a changing, technology-driven world. We are a Twin Cities leader in emergency and scheduled transportation — and much more.
Our headquarters facility, located in St. Paul, was built in 2010 in partnership with the St. Paul Port Authority. We are proud to care for your needs with:

Ambulance and Transport Services
HealthEast Medical Transportation has been successfully meeting the needs of our community for more than 134 years. We support our community by providing more than 40,000 calls annually. Our ambulance teams are staffed by some of the most experienced paramedics and EMTs in the region, helping to make HealthEast Medical Transportation a leader in Minnesota for emergency and non-emergency ambulance service.
We are the sole provider of patient transportation for HealthEast and Fairview hospital systems as well as for the Hennepin Medical Center.

Critical Care Life Support

Our critical care transport units are staffed with two registered critical care paramedics. HealthEast critical care paramedics complete an extensive training course through the Cleveland Clinic, which includes: advanced hemodynamic monitoring, balloon pumps, left ventricular assist devices, advanced ventilator management and advanced pharmacology.

Advanced Life Support

ALS crews are staffed by at least two nationally registered paramedics who have undergone additional training in Specialized Advanced Life Support (SALS).
HealthEast Medical Transportation's Advanced Life Support (ALS) provides vital support for our:
• 911 primary service area in Dakota County
• Interfacility transports
• Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance
• Special event stand-bys

Basic Life Support

When you need inter-facility Basic Life Support (BLS), you can count on the skill and technology at HealthEast Medical Transportation.
Our BLS units are staffed with two nationally registered emergency medical technicians (NREMTs). EMTs begin with comprehensive orientation and education programs. They then receive additional training in the administration of nebulized albuterol, Epi-pens and intravenous fluids.
HealthEast Medical Transportation BLS division is one of Minnesota’s largest special event ambulance teams. In addition to providing care for the visitors of the Minnesota State Fair each year, our BLS teams can be seen at some of the area’s largest events.

MedKab

As one of our customers stated, "MedKab is a compassionate ride from point A to point B." We have to agree. With more than 40 years of experience, we know understand the importance of safely and securely assisting our clients.
Each MedKab vehicle is:
• Certified by the Department of Transportation (DOT)
• Equipped with multiple communication options
• Capable of accommodating more than one wheelchair or scooter
o Equipped with a hydraulic lift for increased safety
o Outfitted with plush interiors for added comfort

Safety

All of our vehicles are equipped with “black box” technology to promote safe driving and our providers are rewarded for their safe driving records.

Communications Center

Our state-of-the-art Communications Center is the hub of HealthEast Medical Transportation. It is the first point of entry for all emergency and non-emergency calls. When seconds count, dispatchers quickly determine the closest available unit. Using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, ambulances are tracked by location.
Information is displayed on a large screen in the Communications Center and ambulance status is color-coded so dispatchers can determine at a glance if a vehicle is:
• Available
• On a patient transport
• Involved in a life-saving situation
Communication between dispatchers and our ambulances is accomplished via Mobile Data Terminals and 800 mhz radios.

Vehicle Services

HealthEast Vehicle Services maintains our own in-house fleet of ambulances and support vehicles, and we also do the same for other agencies. Our Emergency Vehicle Services Department that specializes in the build and modifications required to vehicles used in Public Service for local, state and federal agencies. We can assist in the design and build process for a variety of service vehicles, including:
• Squad cars
• Covert vehicles
• Chief vehicles
• Agency specific vehicles for Police, Fire and EMS
• Hazmat vehicles
• Fast response vehicles

Research

We are actively involved in EMS research. Past participation included:
• the IMMEDIATE trial of pre-hospital magnesium administration in STEMI
• capnography while administering CPAP
Current projects include;
• CO-oximetry
• ARREST trial (2017) emergent Cath for post cardiac arrest NSTEMI victims

EMS Academy

HealthEast Medical Transportation’s EMS Academy offers a variety of classes to enhance your skills for managing medical emergencies both out in and out of the hospital.
Our skilled instructors are experienced pre-hospital providers and will guide your education through lecture and hands-on scenarios. This preparation will help you become more competent and confident in the care you provide.
Courses are designed as continuing education for those who respond to emergencies on the job and others interested in EMS education.
Classes offered;
• Community CPR classes
We offer both health care provider CPR for organizations requiring certification (child care centers, clinics, etc.) and Hands-Only CPR for layperson community groups (offices, churches, schools, etc.).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support for the Experienced Provider (ACLS-EP)
For those providers with a strong working knowledge of ACLS, this course takes providers to the next level. Standard ACLS and PALS are also available. HEMT provides all the ALS education for nursing and physician staff within the HealthEast care system.
• Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
Developed by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons, this course is for basic and advanced providers seeking additional education in trauma care.
• Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS)
Developed by the NAEMT, this course addresses best practices in managing medical emergencies. This course is for all levels of provider: EMTs, paramedics, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, anesthetists and physicians.
• Pediatric Education for Pre-hospital Providers (PEPP)
Developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, this course provides a comprehensive source of information in the emergency care of infants and children.
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
This course delivers the national EMS educational standards adopted by the state of Minnesota for emergency medical technicians. Successful completion of the course and certification exams will prepare a student for employment as an entry level EMT on an ambulance, in the emergency department, or within security, law enforcement or the fire service. Both initial and refresher EMT courses are available.
• Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P)
Refresher courses meeting the NICCP and NCCR are available.
• Critical care education
Designed for paramedics or nurses involved in critical care transport of patients, this course focuses on the management of the critically ill patient in the transport environment. Completion of this course prepares a student to become a certified critical care paramedic, certified flight paramedic, certified flight registered nurse or certified transport registered nurse.
• Mobile simulation lab
We can provide pre-hospital education and simulation experiences at your agency’s site using our mobile lab.
