Company Profile
Perinton Ambulance
Company Overview
Perinton Ambulance provides Advanced Life Support (Paramedic)-level emergency response to the Town of Perinton and Village of Fairport in Monroe County, New York. Our staff of Dispatchers, EMTs, and Paramedics provide around-the-clock service and answered over 4,800 requests for service in 2018.
Our fleet is comprised of five state-of-the-art ambulances, a quick response vehicle (“fly car”), and an incident response & support trailer. Each ambulance is equipped with a Stryker EMS Power-Pro XT stretcher with XPS configuration and Power-LOAD cot fastener system.
Located in the southeast corner of the county, our district comprises approximately 35 square miles and borders Wayne County to the east and Ontario County to the south and south-east. The district is bisected by the Erie Canal, over which the historic lift bridge is a local landmark. Just north of the Canal is the CSX mainline, which sees nearly 50 freight and commuter trains daily. Major roadways include State Routes 31, 31F, 250, and Interstate 490. We serve a population of approximately 52,000 residents (as of the 2010 census) and countless businesses.
Within the district, our public safety partners include the Bushnell’s Basin, Egypt, and Fairport fire districts as well as the Fairport Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police. All requests for emergency services are routed through the Emergency Communications Department, the primary 9-1-1 public safety answering point for Monroe County, including the City of Rochester.
Company History
Perinton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, dba Perinton Ambulance, was founded as a Lions Club project on April 30, 1965, and began service on September 1, 1965, as a part-time, volunteer, basic life support (BLS) service for the approximately 18,000 residents of the Village of Fairport and the Town of Perinton. The first coverage was only weekends, with evening hours being added before the end of the year. By the late 1970s, PVAC began filling shifts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
As we entered the new millennium, the availability of volunteers dropped significantly while the Corps experienced an annual increase in call volume. As a result, alternative forms of staffing were required to keep pace, and in 2011 the Corps became a combination service to maintain the staffing necessary to meet the service needs of the community. In September of 2016, PVAC was granted authority to operate as an advanced life support (ALS) agency through the Monroe-Livingston Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Committee (REMAC). In 2018, our staff received over 4,800 requests for service and currently on pace to surpass 5,000 requests in 2019.
We operate a fleet of five ambulances, a first response vehicle, and an incident support trailer out of our headquarters at 1400 Turk Hill Road, adjacent to the Town Hall. Every day, we have two full crews on duty around the clock and staff an additional ambulance during high volume hours. The remaining vehicles are staffed when the needs of the community dictate.
Additionally, we sponsor an Explorer Post through the Boy Scouts of America and provide scholarships to high school seniors who are pursuing health-related studies in college. Last, but certainly not least, we sponsor CPR and First Aid training to Fairport High School students through a local American Heart Association training center; to date over 2,600 students have been trained through this program. We also sponsor free CPR training for residents of Fairport and Perinton.
