Company Profile
Physicians Ambulance
Company Overview
The vision for Physicians Ambulance is to be viewed by other private, local, state and national EMS programs as visionary and trend setting in emergency and non-emergency medical services by demonstrating the highest quality of care while utilizing cutting edge technology and innovative service delivery methods.
At Physicians, we invest in our people and our equipment first. It is our number one priority to be as clinically sound and as cutting edge as humanly possible. Our Organization is built on honesty, loyalty and trust- and, along with motivation, these are the foundations of our hiring.
We are confident that we have the tools in place to educate any Paramedic or EMT we bring into our system; but what we cannot teach are the intangibles. That is, those qualities that have already been instilled in an individual.
Customer service and client satisfaction drives us!
Company History
Founded in 1958 by Robert and Patricia Hess in Cleveland, Ohio, Physicians Ambulance distinguished itself as an ambulance company at a time when funeral homes provided ambulance services as a secondary business.
During the 1970s, we became the first private ambulance service in Ohio to employ EMT's. Prior to that period, basic first aid certificates were the standard.
In the late 1980s, Physicians entered the computer era with one of the first computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems designed specifically for the Company. Also, we began Advanced Life Support services.
In 1991, Ron and Robert Hess Jr. purchased Physicians Ambulance from their parents. Growth continued, as did investment into the evolving world of EMS. New offices, vehicles and equipment separated us from our competitors.
In 1994, Physicians sold its operations to a national company. At the time of sale, Physicians Ambulance was the 3rd largest private ambulance company in the nation, with over 600 employees and 100 vehicles throughout the Great State of Ohio.
After 7 years out of the marketplace, Physicians Ambulance was reestablished in 2001 from scratch under the new name Physicians Medical Transport Team. This new era began with just 5 used ambulances and 0 wheelchair vans (ambulettes).
We quickly gained back many of our previous clients, who openly vocalized that the customer service they were used to disappeared during our absence. Growth came quickly and continued consistently during the early years of our "rebirth," and beyond.
In 2006, the expanding fleet pushed Physicians Medical Transport Team to purchase a new, much larger Headquarters off of Cranwood Parkway in Warrensville Heights. That followed with the purchase of a building in Westlake, near the Lorain County border, and the development of a satellite office station at Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights.
Today, Physicians has returned to its original name, Physicians Ambulance, and is the primary provider for University Hospitals Health System, 70+ skilled nursing facilities and assisted livings, the Cleveland Browns and First Energy Stadium, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland State University and the Wolstein Center, the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission (National Senior Games, Gay Games, Continental Cup, NEOCycle, NCAA partnered events...), the SPIRE Institute, Lifebanc and is the preferred provider for a plethora of special events, including high school football and track events, festivals, 5ks and more!
We offer the newest fleet of ambulances in our marketplace. Our squads carry the best pre-hospital equipment and supplies available. Field data computers and sophisticated GPS tracking allow for detailed clinical reporting and accuracy in Estimated Times of Arrival (ETAs).
Physicians Ambulance is a family owned and operated Northeast Ohio Company that focuses most intently on customer service and patient care (timeliness, care, communication).
On the EMS side, we operate an Advanced Life Support (ALS) Division and a Basic Life Support (BLS) Division. All ALS ambulances are equipped with 12-lead EKG with transmission, CPAP and IV Pumps. All Paramedics are vent-certified, and our rigorous biomedical service, state-of-the-art documentation methods via electronic tablet and advanced GPS and trip sending software are just a few of the many differentials that put us considerably ahead of our competition.
