VFW Camp Trotter is a nonprofit residential camp on Bills Lake, northern Michigan. Our mission: cultivate courage, community, and curiosity through outdoor programs that build resilience and belonging. We welcome staff from all backgrounds and prioritize child safety, inclusion, and staff development.

Company History

VFW Camp Trotter was started in 1949 off the shores of Bill's Lake near Newaygo, Michigan, when Ralph Trotter donated his war time poultry farm to the Michigan Veteran's of Foreign Wars in order to build a children's summer camp. With over 75 years of history, we proudly still serve that commitment to ensuring all children have an opportunity to an affordable summer camp experience.

VFW Camp Trotter is a non-profit that cultivates courage, community, and curiosity in children and youth through accessible residential outdoor programs that build resilience, foster belonging, and inspire hands-on learning – with particular focus on military families, we believe in camp for all youth with a heart of service.
